HEY!!! I would love to go! Only thing is the only day I could go is a Saturday and I don't know if any of you want to do that... I don't really look forward to standing in line to be honest... I could do a Monday if they were freaking open... anyway..
haywired,
steph
I broke down the Biennial thusly:
4th Floor - depression, detachment, death.
3rd Floor - varied responses to America (and the rest of the 1st World's) state of decadence handled in a clinical, intellectual visual vocabulary and feel, kind of preachy feeling and boringly futuristic, mostly devoid of visual (or other) pleasure.
2nd Floor - the visual pleasure missing from upper floors (though most of this left me feeling as empty as floor 3 and hopeless as floor 4.)
This is all good news believe it or not! Art is a multi leveled and imagined thing. It is what we want and is not required to be anything at all! How freeing! How beautiful!
I went to the Whitney on Saturday. Sorry I didn't check here first. The membership price for an artist is maybe $40, not sure, and well worth it. There is no line if one is a member and you save money if you visit three or more times. Having been a member for two years now I've realized that being a member to museums forces me to visit them as I don't want to waste my money and feel part of the community of supporters (and therefor want to support in my physically being as well).
Best wishes,
Matt
